Discovering the Hidden Treasures: The Pemuteran Jetty Dive Site
Discovering the Hidden Treasures: Pemuteran Jetty
Nestled near the Bali Barat National Park, Pemuteran beckons with its pristine white sand beaches, turquoise waters, and a dramatic backdrop of neighboring Java’s majestic volcanoes. However, it is beneath the waves that the true magic unfolds.
While Pemuteran and Menjangan are celebrated for their stunning underwater landscapes, there exists a lesser-known gem awaiting intrepid divers: the Pemuteran Jetty Dive Site. Located at the eastern tip of Pemuteran Beach, this seemingly unassuming spot conceals a world of marine wonders beneath its murky surface.
Revealing Unexpected Marvels
At first glance, the Pemuteran Jetty may not command attention. The water appears turbid, occasionally marred by debris. Yet, as you descend, a captivating world reveals itself:
Bangai Cardinalfish: Encounter this rare critter immediately upon descent. Yes, seriously! These exquisite fish are found exclusively in Lembeh and our very own Pemuteran.
Pipefish and Catfish: Graceful pipefish glide alongside a thriving abundance of catfish, creating a mesmerizing spectacle.
Lionfish Varieties: Shortfin lionfish strike various postures, while one with unique spines challenges conventional knowledge.
Juvenile Marine Life: From scorpionfish to map pufferfish, the jetty hosts a diverse array of young marine organisms.
Nudibranch Extravaganza: Spot nudibranchs in shades previously unseen—tiny, vibrant, and utterly captivating.
Thorny Seahorse: The pinnacle of the experience! Amidst the swaying seaweed, a thorny seahorse displays its exquisite details.
Immersing Yourself in a Surreal Realm

Exploring the Enigmatic Mandarin Fish at Pemuteran
Mandarin Reef: A Unique Shore-Based Dive Adventure
Pemuteran, nestled along the pristine coastline of Bali, offers a rare opportunity for divers seeking an encounter with the elusive Mandarin fish. Unlike many dive sites that require boat access or elaborate arrangements, Pemuteran allows you to embark on this captivating underwater journey directly from the shore.
Timing and Preparation:
After completing two-day dives, each lasting over an hour, we prepare for the twilight dive. The sun’s descent signals the emergence of these remarkable creatures. Our rendezvous time is approximately 5 PM, strategically chosen to witness the Mandarin fish during their nuptial dance.
The Mandarin Beauty:
The Mandarin fish (Synchiropus splendidus) is renowned for its vibrant colors and intricate patterns. These small, enchanting creatures captivate divers with their delicate grace. However, their shyness demands a cautious approach. We’ll employ red light—a stealthy illumination that won’t disturb their courtship rituals.
The Moment of Serendipity:
If fortune favors us, we may witness a pair of Mandarin fish ascending together—a fleeting yet magical moment. As photographers, we’ll seize this opportunity to capture an incredible picture that encapsulates the essence of this twilight encounter.
